Bronx Zoo Visit experience

We visited Bronx zoo last weekend (6th Sept 2009). It’s a nice day out with lot of walking. The weekend we went was a long weekend so obviously lot of crowd. Had I booked the tickets online, would have been much better and could have avoided about an hour long queue: May be next time. Yes… definitely, worth visiting next time.

For all the related information about the zoo, check: http://www.bronxzoo.com
This is about the size of our Nehru zoological park in Hyderabad (250acres). Because of the traffic at parking and long queues at tickets, though we reached there by 10:30 a.m, we could only enter the zoo by 1 p.m. and could spend only 4 hours (5 p.m. zoo closes).

Don’t forget to collect the map at the entrance. We missed it and were lost rout-less for some time in the zoo (Of course, we utilized this slot for our lunch).

We paid the general zoo entrance fee $15 per Adult and children under 2 are free. We didn’t chose the upgrade package. As it was only about 4 hrs left, we just went by individual fee. Some of the special exhibits have a separate fee.

The main attractions of the zoo (we could cover):

Congo – Its a recreation of an African rainforest. Home to Okapi, Red river hogs, mandrills, one of the largest groups of gorillas in captivity, and numerous other species ranging from fishes and snakes to birds and monkeys.
We saw these animals with quite a funny facial expressions:
Here are some sample photos:

There is an entrance fee of $3 for this if u are not buying a upgrade ticket.
Watch the film and embrace the messages the Wildlife Conservation Society is trying to tell. Its about 9 minutes wont take much long.

Bengali Express Monorail- a journey through various Asian habitats such as Indian Rhino, deer, Asian wild horses, and tigers on a narrated monorail which will be not only entertaining but educational. A family favorite not to be missed.

Jungleworld- an indoor recreation of Southeast Asia, home to gibbons, langurs, Malayan tapir, leopards and tree kangaroos. Wonderful to visit throughout the year as it is always warm and entertaining. At the end the visitor is confronted with the dismal reality of habitat destruction as there is a countdown of the number of acres of rainforest cleared.

Here is the map of the zoo.

We could only cover 25% of the zoo in about 4 hours. But still was a good experience at the zoo.
Places to eat are found throughout the zoo. Spend every penny in the zoo thinking that you are not wasting the money but you are infact supporting a wild animal for its shelter and food. The money collected here will be used for recreational for the animals in both the zoo here and also the animals in Congo forest, Africa by WCS.

There is a Camel ride to be taken. This is a small one but the kids love a lot. We all took this ride and it’s quiet a different experience. As the camel starts to walk we move to left and right and that feeling of slipping down is amazing. But you wont actually slip/fall. There is a stand railing which u can hold. My daughter was very happy and very much enjoying this ride

DST: Daylight Saving Time

Just as sunflowers turn their heads to catch every sunbeam, so too have we discovered a simple way to get more from our sun.
Daylight Saving Time gives us the opportunity to enjoy sunny summer evenings by moving our clocks an hour forward in the spring.
Yet, the implementation of Daylight Saving Time has been fraught with controversy since Benjamin Franklin conceived of the idea. Even today, regions and countries routinely change their approaches to Daylight Saving Time.
Daylight saving (or daylight shifting), the standardization of time, and when regions around the globe spring ahead and fall back.
When the clocks change?
Most of the United States begins Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and reverts to standard time on the first Sunday in November. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.In the European Union, Summer Time begins and ends at 1:00 a.m. Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). It begins the last Sunday in March and ends the last Sunday in October. In the EU, all time zones change at the same moment.
How to Spell it?
The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time.Saving is used here as a verbal adjective (a participle). It modifies time and tells us more about its nature; namely, that it is characterized by the activity of saving daylight. It is a saving daylight kind of time. Because of this, it would be more accurate to refer to DST as daylight-saving time. Similar examples would be a mind-expanding book or a man-eating tiger.
Why in the morning?
In the U.S., clocks change at 2:00 a.m. local time. In spring, clocks spring forward from 1:59 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.; in fall, clocks fall back from 1:59 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. In the EU, clocks change at 1:00 a.m. Universal Time. In spring, clocks spring forward from 12:59 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.; in fall, clocks fall back from 1:59 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.In the U.S., 2:00 a.m. was originally chosen as the changeover time because it was practical and minimized disruption. Most people were at home and this was the time when the fewest trains were running. It is late enough to minimally affect bars and restaurants, and it prevents the day from switching to yesterday, which would be confusing. It is early enough that the entire continental U.S. switches by daybreak, and the changeover occurs before most early shift workers and early churchgoers are affected.
DST Not Applicable
For the U.S. and its territories, Daylight Saving Time is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and Arizona. The Navajo Nation participates in the Daylight Saving Time policy, even in Arizona, due to its large size and location in three states.

Our Niagara Trip:

These are our memories from the Niagara trip. On a whole, the experience was good. Oh by the way we had been to there by bus.
It was a good experience going near to the falls by boat. Bhavya didnt like the polythene covers they gave to cover ourselves from the mist.
We saw a special show on how to prepare various glass items in Corning Glass Mueseum.
Oh by the way, the tour guide needs a special mention. He is a chinky and he likes only chinky food.... so, whenever there is a break for food, he preferred to stop by a chinky restaurent. May be he was a bit unlucky on that day as there were majority Desis.
Everyone tolerated his stincts while going but people revolted after reaching Buffallo. No one did enter into the restaurent he took us. He alone went ate and came back .... we were all staring at him with hunger ;).
He took some mercy and lead us to Burger King. But then he cut short our time at the night show. We liked his CHINGLISH language. He used to say "NYAAGARAA".

Weekend Till July2008
